There is something well in excess of seventy suppliers in the marketplace providing software, systems and services for the computer based testing and assessment market

This in turn does not include all the organisations that would develop bespoke software or package existing software in to a larger solution.

Many of the products around supply most of the functionality required to deliver a fully working computerised assessment system.

We have attempted in these pages to categorise the basic modules that typically comprise many of these offerings. The names may change within each product, but the basic modules perform the same sort of functions, although they may well be combined in some of the products in to larger modules.

We have created a basic categorisation as follows

Question Fourteen

In the jumble of images above is a drawing of a camera, click on this ‘HOTSPOT’ to seethe discussion on whether the computer makes a difference in computer based assessment

  • design and creation of the items

  • creating the test and structuring the tests for storage

  • registration and security control

  • delivery of test to the candidate and collection of the responses

  • analysis and issuing of the results including awarding

  • cohort, item and test performance review facilities
