Security and Confidentiality

Do not underestimate the issues of security and confidentiality within these systems. Apart from the age old problems of security and continuity of your computer systems, a big question remains with many systems as to how they ensure the correct candidate is taking the test or submitting the work. In the jargon of the business, how do you authenticate the candidate. In a later release of the itembank we will discuss many issues of security and confidentiality - watch these pages for more details.

Quality Standards

There are a number of initiatives, plans and published standards in place that lay down a ‘standards’ framework for the development and delivery of e-assessments. Their use in the marketplace and the extent of their take-up by the suppliers is another matter

Data Protection

Data Protection and the provisions of the act (most noticeably the 1998 Act), have a bearing on the storage of information about individuals and it’s use in decision making processes.

Infrastructure

The whole area of hardware, networks and all the associated costs and headaches need to be considered. Imagine trying to establish a ‘cyber’ examination room with all candidates having equal facilities and then compare that with the probable mixture of machines and environments in your organisation.

Purchasing

Without doubt there will be significant purchasing and support hurdles to be jumped, that will need to be managed, planned and controlled.
