Generally the systems fall in to two groups.

1. Those that allow for on demand testing, where the candidate turns up (or logs in) and takes the test.

2. Those where the candidate pre-books or enters for the test.

In both cases the challenge is to consider that the candidate taking the test is the candidate who claims to be taking the test, and secondly takes the whole test from start to finish.

Invigilated tests or examinations, where a authorized parties is there through out the test is still the best method, but the technology is moving forward quickly and other secure techniques are appearing.

There are various methods for Authentication of the candidate

• Password

• Pin number

• Booking number/reference

• Private details (mothers maiden name)

• Sophisticated electronic techniques

  • – Monitoring examinee
  • – Physical tests
  • – Statistical monitoring
