We can build many types of items which for this web site we have categorised in to four areas
There is no great science to this categorisation, indeed the field is moving quickly and new ideas are continually coming forward.
If you want to see some rules and ideas for structuring items them press here
There is also much we can do with the items. One of the most powerful is to cluster items around a single idea or theme.
Also important to consider is how the items are stored, in what is termed the item bank. The item bank can be thought of as a database of items. The item, the stem, the distractors, the type being just some of the core data that can be held about an item - there is lots of other pieces of data that can be held about an item. And once we have identified and stored that extra data about an item we have the possibility to report and review that data.
In the following links we discuss some of these items.
In a later version of this web-site we will discuss these issues in even more detail.
In the mean time if you want more advice or assistance with any issue involving computer based testing and assessment please feel free to contact
