Ten Reasons

Why computer are good at running tests

1. .Consistency : computers repeat the same task endlessly and they do it in the same ways (good or bad quality activities) every time, they do not flag at the end of the day, or need caffeine to get them going in the morning.

2. Multitasking : computers can do things in the background whilst the candidate is reading, thinking or deciding

3. Rewarding : there is considerable evidence that the use of computers for assessments provides a rewarding experience for the candidate, far removed from the normal reaction to a ‘written’ test.

 4. Versatility : the manner in which computers can present data is extremely varied, they can present information which is stimulating or at the very least interesting or arresting.

5. Impartiality : computers are unbiased (unless of course someone deliberately programs bias in to them), they do what they are told regardless of who is using them or their software

6. Analysis : once they have the data, computers are very adept at analyzing and reviewing the data in many different ways

7. Reach : computers are not limited to locality, they are ideally suited to distance assessment and learning

8. Flexibility : computers can be instructed to extract and/or present assessment material in response to the candidate, thus creating adaptive tests.

9. Volume : computers can hold in their databases and file structures some very large amounts of data

10. Administration : computers are very good at taking complex processes and by taking them one step at a time turn them into relatively simple tasks, such as security or data collection.
